CHALLENGES & LESSONS LEARNED
Importance of UX
I had mainly been focusing on UI. But working on a horror game in particular, it became more important to think about and understand UX. It is important to think from the player’s perspective and frequently test to ensure you don’t make false assumptions regarding your players.
Role of Narrative
Learned the importance of narrative design for games. In development, we had initially been focused around conveying a story, spending our initial resources on considering script-writing tasks. Through teacher feedback, we changed our focus to having narrative by our means for subtly communicating long and short term goals, and help place mechanics in a consistent theme.
